Days and Evenings of Recollection assist participants in fostering a deeper spiritual life and recognizing how to turn ordinary life into a means to grow in holiness. The Recollections are held once per month and are open to all men, single or married, working both inside and outside the home. Education Development Association has entrusted the spiritual and doctrinal orientation of Mirrabooka’s activities to the Opus Dei Prelature.
Yearly Spiritual Retreats
Retreats provide a weekend away to reflect on God and the living out of one’s faith at work/school, home and in social life. Retreats are conducted by priests of Opus Dei and conducted either at Kenthurst Study Centre or Bargo Conference Centre and include:
- Periods of guided prayer in the chapel
- Opportunity to attend Mass and receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation
- Some talks on virtues and prayer life
- Time for personal reflection
- Praying of the Stations of the Cross and the Rosary
Community Service is a key feature in Mirrabooka’s activities. Service Projects have occurred in regional towns such as Carcoar and Leeton, and other towns in Victoria and Tasmania. Workcamps, in conjunction with other centres of Education Development Association (EDA) and Reledev Australia Limited have been conducted in underprivileged countries such as Vietnam. Visits to the nursing home and feeding
homeless people through the St Vincent de Paul society are other examples of Mirrabooka’s community service activities.
Various study programs sponsored by Mirrabooka aims to teach effective study habits, encourage academic excellence and foster personal development. These study habits are acquired through supervised study programs, study weekends, and individual tutoring. The study programs are supervised by volunteers who are usually competent university students. The environment at the centre would encouraged students to develop strong study habits in a quiet, distraction-free environment.
Mirrabooka Study Center provides various seminars and get togethers to help inspire participants to orient their career with personal guidance and presentations. These presentations provide the practical, intellectual and moral foundation to be a man of character and develops the skills and attitude necessary to be effective in college, and later as a father and a professional man.
Every January, in conjunction with Nairana Study Centre, Mirrabooka organises The Summer Camp which is an action-packed, five day overnight camp for boys entering Year 7, 8 and 9. With a healthy combination of sports, games and spiritual activities together with over 25 years of experience, the camp aims to help boys develop the skills and virtues necessary to be a leader.
